Bitumen tape rubber (also known as bituminous sealing tape or rubberized bitumen tape) is a flexible, self-adhesive waterproofing tape made by combining bitumen (a petroleum-based adhesive) with rubber or polymer components. It is usually reinforced with a layer of aluminum foil, HDPE film, or non-woven fabric on one side and has a peel-off release liner on the adhesive side.
🔧 Key Properties:
Waterproof and weather-resistant
UV-resistant (depending on surface layer)
Flexible and self-sealing
Strong adhesion to various surfaces (metal, concrete, plastic, wood, etc.)
Withstands temperature changes and vibrations
✅ Common Uses:
Sealing roof joints, flashings, skylights, and chimneys
Waterproofing gutters, valleys, and eaves
Patching cracks or holes in metal or concrete
Wrapping and protecting underground pipelines (anti-corrosion)
Sealing around windows or doors during construction
Damp-proofing foundation walls
🛠️ Effective Ways to Use Bitumen Tape Rubber:
Surface Preparation:
Clean the surface thoroughly: Remove dust, oil, rust, loose particles, or any old sealants.
Surface must be dry and stable for best adhesion.
For porous or rough surfaces, applying a bitumen primer can improve bonding.
Measure & Cut:
Cut the tape to the required length using scissors or a utility knife.
Allow for overlap of at least 50mm (2 inches) if using multiple strips.
Peel & Stick:
Gradually peel back the release liner while applying the tape to avoid wrinkles or air bubbles.
Press the tape firmly into place using a roller or hand pressure.
Seal the Edges:
Run your finger or a tool along the edges to make sure they’re tightly sealed.
Overlap joints or seams to ensure continuous waterproofing.
Temperature Tip:
Best applied in warm weather (above 10°C / 50°F).
In cold conditions, warm the tape slightly with a heat gun or keep it indoors before use to improve flexibility and tack.
⚠️ Pro Tips:
Do not apply on wet or frozen surfaces.
Not ideal for high foot traffic areas unless overlaid with additional protection.
Store rolls in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
